Many of the species that can be found in Leddy Park are invasive species. Examples of invasive species include glossy buckthorn, common buckthorn, honeysuckle, and garlic mustard. These invasive plants are known to disturb the park. Currently, there are thirteen non-native species that reside in Leddy Park in both the eastern and western sides of the park. Ridding of the invasive species would help to make Leddy Park a more natural and healthy community. Ways to prevent that take-over of invasive species is always to be cautious of what you plant, verify that the species is native to the area, and that the species will not escape and spread to surrounding areas where it is not welcome. These techniques will help to minimize the impact that invasive plants have on Leddy Park and
other surrounding areas.
